Plock, beautifully situated on Vistula escarpment, is the oldest city in Mazovia and one of the oldest in Poland. Its history dates back to the 10th century, when on the Tumsk Hill fortified castle was built. It soon became the main centre of power in Mazovia and Polish rulers Wladyslaw Herman and Boleslaw Krzywousty (The Wry-mouthed) established here their seats. Plock became the capital of Poland for some time. Today, the remains of the Polish kings rest in the royal chapel in the Cathedral Basilica.
Visiting Plock, you can spend your time at the Mazovian Museum with its impressive collection of Art Nouveau and art deco. You shouldn’t miss the opportunity to see also a modern exhibition presenting the city over ten centuries. Plock boast of Poland's oldest school – St. Malachowski High School, which origins date back to 1180. Worth of mentioning is sacred trail, on which Plock is situated. It was here that Sister Faustina Kowalska experienced the divine revelation of Merciful Jesus and you can visit the museum dedicated to her in the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy.
Plock is not only place with rich history, but also the city that is teeming with life. Every year in June, the feast of the city is here celebrated - Plock History Days and Chemist's Day. The city hosts also an amazing Air Picnic with the biggest civilian air shows. At the end of May, you can meet collectors from across Poland offering their unique collections on the Old Market Square, which turns then into great fairs . The whole event includes abundance of concerts, festivals, Plock Festival of Tastes and an international parade of organ grinders. In July, another musical events attract public attention: the Reggaeland Festival and the Audioriver Electronic Music Festival.
